MEDS Score in Sepsis

 

·         Mortality in Emergency Department Sepsis

·         Derived in 2003 for patients with sepsis/presumed infection

·         Is a nine-component validated instrument that links increasing 28-day mortality as the score increases

·         It lacked prognostic accuracy in the higher scores, but even critics agree that this group is likely identified easily

·         The strength of this tool is to identify patients who are more likely to be missed and get them to higher level of care and more aggressive management

·         Has been validated for patients with SIRS as well- validation article is listed below from 2007
